A Welcome of Sorts

As the great Lionel Richie once said, “Hello, is it me you’re looking for?”

I’m glad that you’re here and I’m excited about this endeavor. The goal here is to address controversial topics facing the world and to do so in a thoughtful, provocative manner that will inspire true dialogue. The division between the “right” and the “left” has reached a level of polarization that I don’t think we’ve ever really seen in our lifetimes. The problems facing our society have been reduced down to extremist internet memes spread through facebook when they should be researched and discussed over a cup of coffee or a pint of beer.

So, that’s really the idea, take these huge and weighty social/economic issues that are largely being addressed along party lines instead of deep thought and create a rich dialogue. The saddest thing that has resulted from the push for “tolerance” is that it seems we no longer have the freedom to disagree with one another and I hope to play a small role in changing that. We are allowed to disagree with one another, you are allowed to disagree with me, continued discussion in the face of disagreement is the greatest way to actually come up with solid answers and live a life that’s not based on assumptions.

I don’t want to live a life built on assumptions, I want my views to be thought out and challenged by people around me.

Care to join me in renewing a spirit of dialogue?
Then stick around.

(PS. I don’t want this blog to just be “heavy” so I’m going to try and include some fun things too, because as much as I love serious discussion, everyone needs a little break from that)

  1. “The problems facing our society have been reduced down to extremist internet memes spread through facebook when they should be researched and discussed over a cup of coffee or a pint of beer.” – Amen!

Looking forward to participating in this discussion, whether it be online, or a cup of coffee/pint of beer (preferably the latter).

  2. I appreciate your comment about needing to be willing to disagree. At least when it comes to political parties though I feel the problem is that no one has a problem disagreeing, they only seem to have a problem finding common ground. Hopefully this blog can at least open up some dialogue that can lead to people really finding their position on an issue instead of relying solely on party lines.

  3. Have you chosen your next topic? If Katie’s recent status shows us anything, there is a big controversy of voting outside the Big 2 candidates. We could discuss that on this platform.
